Welcome to Sophia Strong

About me

Sophia was born on November 28, 2011. She was a completely healthy baby with no trouble early in life-not even an ear infection. Around 2am on November 5th, 2017 at age 5 years 11 months, she woke up inconsolable with a severe headache and left arm weakness. By the time we had reached the ER she was unresponsive and the CT scan revealed a brain bleed in the right hemisphere of her brain caused by an AVM - arteriovenous malformation- that had ruptured spontaneously. She had been born with this and it was a ticking time bomb in her brain, a hidden nightmare that changed our lives forever. On November 7, she had an ischemic stroke that permanently destroyed all blood flow to the right side of her brain. She had emergency surgery to remove the AVM and slowly, every so slowly, began to recover. She spent 5 weeks in the hospital, 16 weeks in rehab, and 3 years in outpatient therapy. She is our miracle and we thank God for her every day!
